Strengthening U.S.-Yemen Relations Amid Ongoing Crises

Deputy Speaker Discusses Bilateral Ties with U.S. Official

Deputy Speaker of the Yemeni Parliament, Engineer Mohammed Al-Shadadi, recently met with Jonathan Pecha, the Chargé d’Affaires at the U.S. Embassy in Yemen. The two officials explored ways to enhance bilateral relations between Yemen and the United States. They also addressed the current economic and service-related challenges stemming from the Houthi coup.

Addressing Humanitarian and Economic Crises

During the meeting, which included several members of the Parliament, Al-Shadadi highlighted the worsening humanitarian crisis in Yemen. He pointed out issues such as electricity shortages and water scarcity. Furthermore, he emphasized the urgent need for increased international support for development projects and the strengthening of national institutions. Al-Shadadi called for continued logistical support from the United States and the international community. He urged Washington to take a clear stance against what he termed “Houthi terrorism,” which poses a threat to regional and global security.

U.S. Commitment to Yemen’s Stability

In response, Pecha reaffirmed the United States’ support for Yemen’s constitutional legitimacy. He expressed the U.S. administration’s commitment to Yemen’s stability and unity. Additionally, he assured continued support for economic reforms and the restoration of state institutions.

This meeting underscores the ongoing collaboration between Yemen and the United States as both nations navigate significant challenges. The discussions reflect a shared commitment to addressing the pressing issues facing Yemen today.
