On Tuesday, Dr. Shaya Mohsen Al-Zandani, the Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, welcomed Dina Abu Ghida, the Director of the World Bank Office in Yemen, in the temporary capital of Aden. The meeting focused on the existing partnership between the Yemeni government and the World Bank, highlighting priority areas for support in the upcoming phase, particularly in the electricity sector and reform policies.
Prime Minister Al-Zandani praised the World Bank’s contributions to economic, service, and developmental aspects, as well as institutional building. He expressed a desire to double this support to bolster the government’s structural reforms aimed at improving economic and productive conditions. He emphasized the need for strategic solutions in the electricity sector and the importance of partner support in this area. Furthermore, he stressed the necessity of expanding collaboration with the World Bank to implement sustainable projects that enhance sector efficiency, develop infrastructure, and strengthen institutional capacities.
In response, Dina Abu Ghida reaffirmed the World Bank’s commitment to supporting the Yemeni government. She highlighted the continuation of their partnership in executing priority programs and projects, particularly in the electricity sector. Abu Ghida also noted the importance of enhancing institutional capacities and achieving economic recovery while improving essential services for citizens.
The meeting also included Dr. Afrah Al-Zuba, the Minister of Planning and International Cooperation, and Dr. Ali Atbosh, the Director of the Prime Minister’s Office.
This collaboration marks a significant step towards addressing Yemen’s pressing challenges and enhancing the quality of life for its citizens.
