Strengthening Ties Between Yemen and Spain

On Thursday, Prime Minister Dr. Ahmed Awad bin Mubarak met with Jorge Aybia Sierra, the newly appointed Spanish Ambassador to Yemen, in the temporary capital of Aden. The two officials discussed ways to enhance the bilateral relationship between Yemen and Spain, as well as the latest developments in national, regional, and international contexts. They also addressed mutual interests and concerns.

Support for Yemen’s Government

During the meeting, Ambassador Sierra conveyed greetings from Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez. He emphasized Spain’s commitment to supporting the Yemeni government in overcoming current challenges. Sierra reiterated Spain’s dedication to aiding Yemen in implementing necessary reforms and alleviating humanitarian suffering. He also highlighted Spain’s efforts to promote peace in Yemen and ensure the freedom of navigation and international trade in the Red Sea.

A Warm Welcome for the New Ambassador

Prime Minister bin Mubarak welcomed Ambassador Sierra to his new role, expressing his best wishes for success in his mission. He assured the ambassador of the Yemeni government’s full cooperation to strengthen the friendship and collaboration between Yemen and Spain. The Prime Minister underscored the importance of mutual interests in fostering a productive partnership.

Addressing Current Challenges and Peace Efforts

The Prime Minister outlined the Yemeni government’s vision for overcoming current challenges, emphasizing its commitment to peace. He called for increased international support to maintain economic stability and complete efforts to restore state authority while ending the Iranian-backed Houthi coup.

This meeting marks a significant step in fostering stronger diplomatic ties between Yemen and Spain, highlighting the importance of international collaboration in addressing regional challenges.
