The Prime Minister has directed improvements for teachers, ensuring timely salary payments and appropriate salary increases.

Prime Minister Directs Improvements for Teachers' Conditions

In a significant move to enhance the welfare of educators, Prime Minister Dr. Ahmed Awad bin Mubarak has issued directives aimed at improving the conditions of teachers across the nation. This initiative includes prioritizing the timely disbursement of teachers’ salaries each month, implementing appropriate salary increases, and allocating necessary rights and allowances in the 2025 budget.

Addressing Employment Issues

The Prime Minister emphasized the need to tackle issues such as dual employment and absenteeism within the education sector. He called for discussions on unifying local authority interventions to consistently support public sector teachers’ salaries. Additionally, the government aims to provide free medical and educational services for teachers and their families in public hospitals and educational institutions.

Commitment to Teachers

Dr. bin Mubarak stated, “From today, teachers’ salaries will be paid before our own. In the coming days, the government will take appropriate measures to ensure fairness for teachers. Every teacher, regardless of their tenure in the profession, is a teacher to the Prime Minister, the Minister, and all state leaders.” He acknowledged that the current positions of government officials owe much to the dedication of teachers who chose to combat illiteracy and promote awareness.

Recognition of Teachers’ Struggles

In a press statement, the Prime Minister expressed the government’s pride and appreciation for the struggles of teachers and all state employees. He recognized their resilience amid challenging living conditions and the severe economic difficulties resulting from the Houthi coup and ongoing conflict. The Prime Minister reiterated the government’s commitment to seeking support from allies to improve teachers’ situations and secure their livelihoods.

Teachers’ Protests and National Values

The ongoing protests by teachers in various provinces for their just demands reflect noble national values that the government defends. These protests occur against a backdrop of Houthi-led disruptions, including the withholding of salaries and attacks on education. The Prime Minister reassured teachers that their legitimate rights are important, stating, “We are not distant from your concerns.”

The Impact of Educational Disruption

Dr. bin Mubarak highlighted the dire consequences of halting or regressing educational processes. He warned of the potential rise in school dropouts, which could lead to increased homelessness, delinquency, and recruitment into extremist groups. This challenge affects not only the government but also the regional and international community, as it undermines peace and stability in Yemen.

Economic Challenges and Educational Priorities

The Prime Minister criticized the Houthi militia for exacerbating poverty and hunger in areas under their control. He noted that targeting vital economic facilities aims to undermine peace efforts. The increase in youth joining Houthi ranks results from their strategy to deprive citizens of basic needs and disrupt education.

Acknowledging Teachers’ Resilience

Dr. bin Mubarak commended teachers across Yemen for their extraordinary resilience during years of conflict. He recognized their role in raising awareness and fighting against the destructive actions of the Houthi militia. The Prime Minister reiterated that education remains the government’s top priority and a cornerstone for awareness, development, and defeating extremist ideologies.

Sustainable Policies for Education

The Prime Minister assured that his directives would not only address teachers’ conditions temporarily but would also establish sustainable policies to support education. This includes creating a General Education Fund and allocating resources to meet teachers’ needs and enhance educational quality through transparent mechanisms. The government seeks active participation from the private sector and international partners to support this initiative.

Dr. bin Mubarak emphasized the strategic importance of education, rallying support from friends and partners to ensure stability and development in the educational sector. He reiterated that the government will fulfill its commitments to teachers and citizens, regardless of the challenges posed by the ongoing conflict.
