In a recent statement, Prime Minister Dr. Ahmed Awad bin Mubarak emphasized the urgent need to intensify efforts against illegal currency exchange operations and speculators across all liberated provinces. He highlighted the importance of coordinating actions between security agencies and relevant judicial authorities to protect the national currency and mitigate the adverse effects of its decline on citizens’ livelihoods.
Review of Recent Enforcement Actions
The Prime Minister reviewed the outcomes of recent enforcement campaigns conducted in the temporary capital, Aden. These operations, led by the Public Funds Prosecution, resulted in the closure of several illegal exchange houses and the apprehension of currency speculators. Dr. bin Mubarak praised the judicial authorities for their support in bolstering government and Central Bank initiatives aimed at addressing ongoing currency speculation.
Implementation of Government Directives
Dr. Ahmed Awad bin Mubarak also received updates from Justice Minister Judge Badr Al-Aradah and Aden Governor Ahmed Lamlas regarding the implementation of directives aimed at stabilizing exchange rates and deterring speculators. These directives stemmed from President of the Presidential Leadership Council and decisions made by the Cabinet and the High Committee for Combating Smuggling, as well as the High Security Committee.
Urgent Call for Enhanced Coordination
The Prime Minister urged ministries, relevant agencies, and the Central Bank to double their efforts and urgently continue implementing measures to monitor and control economic crimes, particularly those involving currency manipulation. He also directed authorities to closely monitor and regulate the prices of essential goods and food items, ensuring effective coordination between government bodies and local authorities.
