During the meeting, Prime Minister bin Brek received updates from Minister of Oil and Minerals Dr. Saeed Al-Shamasi and Minister of Electricity and Energy Mani Ben Yameen. They outlined plans to supply fuel to electricity generation stations and gradually increase production capacity. These measures aim to reduce the number of power outages in the coming days, especially before the Eid al-Adha holiday. The ministers also reported on the progress made in diversifying fuel sources and discussed the electricity situation in Hadramout, Lahij, and Abyan, along with ongoing solutions to current operational challenges.
The meeting also focused on practical solutions to address the existing electricity deficit and ensure a steady supply of fuel. Prime Minister bin Brek directed the Ministries of Electricity and Oil to explore unconventional solutions to stabilize the electricity generation system. He emphasized the importance of maintaining an adequate stock of fuel for electricity generation.
Prime Minister bin Brek expressed his commitment to addressing the electricity crisis, stating that convening the first government meeting upon his return to Aden underscores the urgency of the situation. He acknowledged the citizens’ struggles due to the deteriorating electricity service, especially with the onset of summer. He stressed the collective responsibility to find sustainable and immediate solutions for stabilizing the electricity system.
The Prime Minister highlighted the directives and agreements aimed at increasing fuel supply to electricity generation stations in Aden, whether through local oil production or imports. The meeting included the presence of Prime Minister Advisor Ambassador Mujib Othman and Talal Ben Haidrah, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Oil and Minerals for Financial and Administrative Affairs.
