On Wednesday, President Dr. Rashad Mohammed Alimi, head of the Presidential Leadership Council, received the credentials of Abdulhakim Mohammed Ahmed, the new Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Somalia to Yemen. The ceremony took place at the Maashiq Palace in Aden, Yemen’s temporary capital.

Diplomatic Greetings and Well-Wishes

The ambassador expressed wishes for the health and happiness of President Alimi and the council members, alongside hopes for security and stability for the Yemeni people.

Commitment to Strengthening Bilateral Relations

President Alimi warmly welcomed the new Somali ambassador and asked him to relay his greetings to the Somali leadership. He emphasized Yemen’s commitment to providing all necessary support and facilities to ensure the ambassador’s success in his diplomatic duties and to enhance bilateral relations.

Historical Ties and Shared Challenges

During the meeting, President Alimi praised the historical brotherly relations between Yemen and Somalia. He highlighted how both nations have consistently supported each other in times of need. Addressing Regional Security Threats

The President addressed shared security threats, particularly the collaboration and exchange of weapons and expertise between the Houthi militia and terrorist organizations in the Horn of Africa, including ISIS and Al-Shabaab. He noted the implications of these threats for international peace and security.

Ensuring Maritime Security

President Alimi reiterated that restoring security in the Red Sea region begins with its southern shores. He called for comprehensive arrangements on both sides of the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, along with enhanced security and intelligence coordination.
