The Presidential Leadership Council discusses national and regional developments in a recent meeting.

Presidential Leadership Council Holds Key Meeting

On Thursday, the Presidential Leadership Council convened under the leadership of President Dr. Rashad Mohammed Al-Alimi. Members in attendance included Aidrous Al-Zubaidi, Dr. Abdullah Al-Alimi, and Othman Mujali. The meeting also included virtual participation from Tarek Saleh and Abdul Rahman Al-Mahrimi. However, members Sultan Al-Arada and Faraj Al-Bahsani were absent due to valid reasons.

Addressing Local Issues

The council discussed several pressing issues on its agenda, focusing on the latest developments in local conditions. Key topics included political and economic updates, service-related changes, fluctuations in exchange rates, and efforts to expedite the implementation of an economic rescue plan. The council emphasized the need to alleviate the humanitarian suffering exacerbated by the Houthi militia’s attacks on oil facilities and international shipping routes.

Updates from Recent Engagements

At the start of the meeting, President Al-Alimi briefed council members on his participation in the extraordinary Arab-Islamic summit in Riyadh and the 12th World Urban Forum in Cairo. He also shared insights from his meeting with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi.

The council heard reports from Dr. Abdullah Al-Alimi regarding his attendance at the climate conference in Baku, Azerbaijan. Additionally, Othman Mujali reported on his visit to the United Kingdom. Other council members provided updates on the progress of their assigned tasks.

Government Reports and Economic Measures

The council reviewed government reports detailing local developments and the implementation of council decisions and recommendations. These reports particularly focused on improving state access to sovereign resources, curbing currency speculation, and monitoring prices of essential services and goods.

Appreciation for Regional Support

In this context, the council expressed profound gratitude for the support from the Saudi-led Coalition, particularly Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. This coalition continues to assist the Yemeni government in fulfilling its obligations, especially in paying employee salaries and securing essential goods and services for millions of Yemenis across the country.

New Support Initiatives

The council also acknowledged the United Kingdom’s announcement of a new support package for the Yemeni Coast Guard. This initiative aligns with coordinated efforts among regional allies and international partners to combat piracy, terrorism, arms smuggling, and organized crime. Furthermore, the UK pledged to provide greater developmental support for the Yemeni people in the coming stages.

Regional Developments and Security Concerns

The meeting addressed regional updates concerning the ongoing Israeli aggression against the Palestinian and Lebanese peoples, as well as the Houthi militia’s terrorist attacks on international shipping lines. The council discussed the devastating implications of these events on food security and international peace and security, leading to necessary decisions and recommendations.

Ongoing Discussions

The council plans to continue its discussions on the agenda items later this week, ensuring a thorough examination of the pressing issues at hand.
