Mothers of Abductees Association Condemns Kidnapping of Lawyer Abdelmajid Sabrah

The Mothers of Abductees Association has condemned the ongoing detention of lawyer Abdelmajid Sabrah in the prisons of the Houthi-controlled Security and Intelligence Agency in Sana’a. Sabrah has faced over 260 days of detention without any legal justification, depriving him of his fundamental legal and human rights.

Concerns Over Detention Conditions

In a recent statement, the association expressed deep concern regarding the harsh conditions Sabrah endures. These circumstances prompted him to initiate an open-ended hunger strike in protest of his continued detention and the lack of legal recourse available to him. However, Sabrah halted his strike following intervention from his family, who feared for his deteriorating health.

Responsibility for the Lawyer’s Safety

The association holds the Houthi militia fully accountable for the life and safety of Abdelmajid Sabrah. They emphasized that his ongoing detention constitutes a blatant violation of fundamental rights and freedoms. This situation is particularly alarming given Sabrah’s prominent role in defending abductees and the forcibly disappeared for over a decade.

Call for International Action

The Mothers of Abductees Association urges local and international human rights organizations, including the United Nations and the global community, to take immediate action to pressure for Sabrah’s unconditional and immediate release. The association reaffirmed its full solidarity with his family, stressing that the defense of rights and freedoms should not lead to imprisonment. The continued detention of one of the leading advocates for abductees represents a severe affront to the principles of justice and the rule of law.
