The Ministry of Human Rights concluded a specialized training course for Child Protection Units today in Aden, the temporary capital of Yemen. This initiative, conducted in partnership with UNICEF, aims to prevent the recruitment of children under the banner “Protecting Childhood Secures a Better Future.”
Over the course of two days, 27 officers and members from various military and security formations participated in the training. Participants received instruction on international humanitarian law and legal frameworks related to child protection. This training equips them with the necessary knowledge to safeguard children’s rights effectively.
Nabil Abdul-Hafiz, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Human Rights and the project supervisor, emphasized that this course is part of a national strategy aimed at enhancing child protection in Yemen. The initiative focuses on building the capacities of military and security personnel to understand relevant legal aspects and develop their field skills in accordance with local laws and international agreements ratified by Yemen.
Abdul-Hafiz highlighted that protecting children is a collective responsibility that requires serious coordination and collaboration among various stakeholders. He reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to continue its efforts, in partnership with others, to raise legal awareness among protection units and reduce the phenomenon of child recruitment.
This training marks a significant step toward strengthening child protection measures in Yemen. By enhancing the skills of those responsible for safeguarding children, the Ministry of Human Rights aims to create a safer environment for the nation’s youth.
