The Ministry of Finance in Aden has firmly rejected claims attributed to a diplomatic source at the Yemeni Consulate in Cairo. These claims suggested that the ministry imposed exorbitant fees for the authentication of official documents and powers of attorney.
A responsible source within the Ministry of Finance confirmed to the Yemeni News Agency (Saba) that no fees have been imposed in violation of existing laws and regulations. This includes fees for the authentication of any document or power of attorney, including commercial powers of attorney, at the Yemeni Consulate in Cairo or any other friendly nations. The ministry emphasized that it lacks the authority to modify or cancel any fees established by law.
The source further clarified that the fees for authenticating official documents at Yemeni embassies and consulates abroad are set according to Cabinet Decision No. (253) of 2003. Administrative matters related to consulates and embassies fall under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates. This ministry is responsible for collecting and remitting consular fee revenues abroad. Therefore, any discrepancies regarding fee collection under the Cabinet decision would be the responsibility of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The source expressed disappointment and surprise at the dissemination of such misleading information by some activists on social media. They noted that this could unintentionally create confusion within state institutions, especially at a time when trust in these institutions is crucial. The ministry urged the public to refrain from spreading such claims and to seek accurate information from official sources. This approach will help prevent the spread of misinformation and uphold the integrity of state institutions.
