Minister Launches Social Inclusion Project in Southern Yemen

On Sunday, Naif Al-Bakri, the Minister of Youth and Sports, officially launched a new initiative in collaboration with the Italian organization "Help Code." This project aims to enhance social inclusion and drive social change in the governorates of Aden, Lahij, and Al-Dhale. The initiative specifically targets youth, adolescents, and children in local communities, including internally displaced persons, individuals with disabilities, and marginalized groups.

Project Overview

The project encompasses a variety of training programs and workshops. It will establish and train committees for children and adolescents, equipping them with essential information. Additionally, the initiative plans to host sports competitions across multiple disciplines. A key focus will be raising community awareness about issues related to discrimination, violence, and hatred. The project will also procure and provide sports equipment and recreational materials for child-friendly spaces.

Minister’s Remarks

Minister Al-Bakri praised the partnership with Help Code, emphasizing the importance of working together to achieve the project’s objectives. He highlighted the role of sports as a tool for community engagement and leadership development. Furthermore, he expressed the government’s commitment to facilitating the work of international organizations in Aden. Al-Bakri hopes that the workshop will yield recommendations that benefit sports development and align with the ministry’s vision, particularly in addressing urgent priorities and increasing participation in sports activities across the three governorates.

Objectives of the Workshop

Moussa Mouri, the Country Director for Help Code, clarified that the workshop aims to introduce the project, its goals, and its components. He outlined the roles of the ministry, local authorities, and community leaders, emphasizing the importance of community involvement. The workshop will also explore channels for inclusion and engagement, ensuring that all voices are heard in the process.

Conclusion

This initiative marks a significant step towards fostering social inclusion and empowering youth in southern Yemen. By leveraging sports as a unifying force, the project aims to combat discrimination and promote community cohesion. The collaboration between the Yemeni government and international organizations like Help Code underscores a shared commitment to creating a more inclusive society.
