Minister Discusses Climate Adaptation Projects with World Bank Delegation

In a significant meeting held today in the temporary capital of Aden, Yemen, Minister of Water and Environment, Engineer Tawfiq Al-Sharjabi, engaged with a delegation from the World Bank. The discussions focused on a series of joint projects aimed at enhancing cooperation to tackle the challenges posed by climate change, as well as water and food security in the country.

Review of Current Conditions and Opportunities

During the meeting, both parties reviewed the outcomes of recent meetings and field visits conducted by the World Bank delegation. These efforts aimed to assess the current situation and identify promising opportunities to support key developmental sectors. The discussions highlighted the need to prioritize the development of a joint project focused on climate change and water information. This initiative will receive funding from the Green Climate Fund, which aims to secure additional and sustainable financing, complementing the scheduled funding from the World Bank for the water and environment sectors.

The Minister reiterated the importance of maintaining a strong partnership with the World Bank and international financing institutions. He acknowledged their crucial role in supporting the Yemeni government’s efforts to achieve sustainable development. Furthermore, he stressed the need to enhance capacities for climate adaptation and ensure water and food security in the region.
