Today, Dr. Abdul Salam Hamid, the Minister of Transport, alongside Captain Saleh Bin Naheed, the head of the General Authority for Civil Aviation and Meteorology, officially laid the foundation stone for a new civil aviation building at Aden International Airport in the temporary capital of Aden.
Minister Hamid detailed that the project will cover an area of 5,700 square meters. The new building will feature three floors, accommodating all sectors and departments of the authority. Additionally, it will include a main conference hall, a spacious lobby for exhibitions and workshops related to aviation activities, as well as parking facilities and green spaces.
The minister indicated that the project will take between one to one and a half years to complete, funded entirely by the authority. He also noted that two months ago, the ministry laid the foundation for a main maintenance workshop for the aviation company. This initiative is part of a broader effort to enhance the aviation infrastructure in Aden.
Minister Hamid emphasized that 2025 will mark a significant year for the aviation sector, which plays a crucial role in driving economic and social development. He highlighted several projects launched in the past two weeks, including the opening of Ataq International Airport and Abd al-Kuri Island Airport in the Socotra Archipelago. He announced plans to upgrade Socotra Airport to operate both day and night, expanding its capabilities.
Captain Bin Naheed confirmed that this year represents a milestone for the authority, showcasing numerous completed programs and ongoing projects. He provided insights into the project’s location, which will be situated on the northern side of Aden International Airport. This area complies with Cabinet decisions and safety plans, ensuring it maintains appropriate distances from the runway according to established regulations.
Following the foundation stone ceremony, Minister Hamid and Captain Bin Naheed conducted a site visit to assess the designated area for the new building. They reviewed the technical aspects and air safety measures, ensuring compliance with international civil aviation standards.
This new development at Aden International Airport signifies a commitment to advancing the aviation sector in Yemen, promising enhanced infrastructure and improved services in the coming years.
