On Thursday, Abdulrahman Sheikh, the Minister of State and Governor of Aden, met with Rehana Zawar, the Director of the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS). The two officials explored ways to enhance developmental cooperation and expand areas of joint partnership.
Governor Sheikh emphasized the local authority’s vision to broaden UNOPS interventions across several vital sectors. He highlighted the importance of alternative energy projects, aligning with the province’s goal to transition public facilities to renewable energy sources. This shift aims to optimize traditional energy consumption and direct resources toward serving the community effectively.
During the meeting, Governor Sheikh reviewed the progress of various projects implemented by UNOPS. Notable initiatives include the Fifty Street project in the Mansoura district and the vaccine storage project. Additionally, the governor discussed the initiative to convert offices and public facilities to rely on alternative energy. The first phase of this project will cover 221 offices.
Governor Sheikh announced the completion of technical studies for the alternative energy project. This preparation sets the stage for implementation in the upcoming phase, which aims to enhance service efficiency and sustainability.
