Today, Minister of Social Affairs and Labor Mukhtar Al-Yafai met with the U.S. Charge d’Affaires in Yemen, Neil Hope, to discuss the latest developments in the humanitarian situation and ways to enhance cooperation in social protection and support the implementation of the National Child Protection Plan for 2026–2029.
The meeting addressed the repercussions of the recent escalation by Houthi militias, which has led to widespread displacement and increasing humanitarian needs. The discussions included urgent measures to protect children, condemning the militias’ practices of recruiting children and sending them to the front lines. The importance of strengthening national and international efforts to protect children from various violations was emphasized.
Minister Al-Yafai highlighted the significance of the partnership with the United States in supporting humanitarian response and social protection programs. He stressed the need to mobilize resources necessary for implementing the National Child Protection Plan, appreciating the American support for the Yemeni government and its solidarity with the Yemeni people.
For his part, the U.S. Charge d’Affaires reaffirmed his country’s ongoing concern for the humanitarian situation in Yemen. He expressed readiness to support humanitarian response efforts, continue coordination with the government and partners, and assist in protecting children and addressing the needs of displaced individuals and the most affected groups.
