Today, in the temporary capital of Aden, Minister of Social Affairs and Labor Dr. Mohammed Al-Zahouri met with British Ambassador to Yemen, Abda Sharif, to address the pressing humanitarian situation in the country. The two officials focused on enhancing cooperation to deliver urgent life-saving humanitarian aid, coordinating efforts with partners and donors to address the critical funding shortfall.
Minister Al-Zahouri emphasized the ministry’s commitment to facilitating the flow of aid and implementing projects aimed at social protection and welfare. He noted that the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor is collaborating with the Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation to develop suitable mechanisms for executing humanitarian projects and accommodating funding from donors.
The minister expressed his gratitude to the British government for its ongoing support of the Yemeni government. He acknowledged the UK’s active role in rallying international support to tackle the economic and humanitarian challenges facing Yemen.
In response, Ambassador Sharif commended the Yemeni government’s efforts to navigate the economic difficulties stemming from halted oil exports and reduced foreign aid. She assured that the British government is actively engaging with international partners to increase humanitarian assistance to Yemen. Furthermore, she highlighted the importance of supporting the Yemeni government in meeting essential needs and enhancing the resilience of its population.
The discussions between Minister Al-Zahouri and Ambassador Sharif underscore the urgent need for coordinated humanitarian efforts in Yemen. As the country grapples with significant challenges, international collaboration remains crucial for delivering effective aid and fostering stability.
