Minister of Justice Discusses Forensic Collaboration with International Red Cross

Today, Minister of Justice Judge Badr Al-Aradah met with a delegation from the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), led by Protection Coordinator Alyssa Bertelli. The meeting focused on enhancing cooperation in forensic medicine, particularly in strengthening coordination with the National Forensic Center.

Enhancing Forensic Capabilities

During the meeting held in the temporary capital of Aden, both parties explored ways to develop joint working mechanisms. They aimed to improve the efficiency of specialized medical staff and provide technical support to the National Forensic Center, thereby enhancing its operational capabilities.

Minister Al-Aradah emphasized the importance of forensic medicine as an effective tool for achieving justice and uncovering criminal circumstances. He reiterated the ministry’s commitment to building a sustainable system in this sector by supporting infrastructure, training national competencies, and fostering collaboration with international partners.

Continued Support from the ICRC

In response, Bertelli affirmed the ICRC’s commitment to supporting the ministry’s efforts through training programs and the provision of technical supplies. This partnership aims to bolster the forensic capabilities essential for justice.

Strengthening Judicial Systems

In a related discussion, Minister Al-Aradah met with Richard Probst, Director of the Middle East and North Africa Office at the Friedrich Ebert Foundation, and Konstantin Grund, the non-resident representative for Yemen. They discussed areas of mutual cooperation to support the judicial system and enhance the rule of law.

The meeting addressed the implementation of programs aimed at building the capacities of judges, legal secretaries, and court staff. Additionally, they focused on supporting the ministry’s efforts in archiving judicial files and modernizing judicial work systems.

Promoting Legal Awareness

Minister Al-Aradah highlighted the efforts of the Rule of Law Committee within the ministry to raise awareness about the dangers of carrying weapons and combat negative phenomena. He stressed the importance of supporting the second phase of the committee’s work and its future plans.

Inclusive Initiatives for the Hearing Impaired

The minister also revealed plans to prepare a sign language guide for individuals with hearing disabilities. He called for contributions to develop a modern documentation guide that aligns with digital advancements in legal transactions.

Commitment to Justice and Freedom

Probst and Grund reaffirmed the foundation’s support for the Ministry of Justice in establishing justice and enhancing freedoms. They emphasized that social justice cannot be achieved without an effective judicial system.

This collaborative effort marks a significant step toward strengthening Yemen’s judicial framework and ensuring justice for all citizens.
