The Minister of Information stated that the explosion north of Sana’a resulted from a Houthi failure to launch a missile near the airport.

Explosion in Northern Sana’a Sparks Panic Among Citizens

Minister of Information, Culture, and Tourism, Muammar Al-Eryani, reported a significant explosion that occurred this morning in northern Sana’a, the capital currently under Houthi control. The blast caused widespread panic among residents and resulted from the Houthi militia’s failure to launch a missile from the vicinity of Sana’a Airport.

Houthi Militia’s Ongoing Threats

Al-Eryani emphasized that since their coup against the state, the Houthi militia has consistently militarized urban areas. They have transformed vital installations and residential neighborhoods into platforms for launching missiles and drones. This strategy exploits civilians as human shields, representing a blatant violation of international humanitarian law.

Risks to Civilian Life and State Resources

The minister highlighted that these actions pose a continuous threat to civilian lives and national resources. The dangers arise not only from failed launch attempts but also from retaliatory strikes. Al-Eryani pointed out that Sana’a and several other provinces under Houthi control have experienced similar incidents, resulting in hundreds of civilian casualties. The most recent tragedy involved a surface-to-air missile landing in a local market, alongside other incidents in Al-Mahwit and Hamdan districts due to indiscriminate or failed missile launches.

Call for International Accountability

Al-Eryani urged the international community to fulfill its legal and humanitarian responsibilities regarding these repeated violations. He called for decisive and punitive measures against the Houthi militia, including classifying them as a terrorist organization, similar to actions taken by the United States and several other nations. He stressed the need for sanctions against leaders involved in these crimes, which threaten civilian lives and disregard international law.

Conclusion

The situation in Yemen remains critical as the Houthi militia continues to endanger civilians through reckless military tactics. The international community’s response will be crucial in addressing these violations and ensuring the safety of innocent lives.
