The Minister of Information stated that Houthi militias are obscuring the murder of Dr. Wafa Al-Makhlafi with a fabricated narrative.

Minister of Information Accuses Houthi Militias of Covering Up Doctor’s Murder

In a recent statement, Yemen’s Minister of Information, Culture, and Tourism, Muammar al-Eryani, condemned the murder of Dr. Wafa Sadam al-Basha al-Mukhlaafi in the Al-Hasbah neighborhood of the capital, Sana’a. He described this incident as a new chapter in the ongoing security chaos and lawlessness perpetrated by the Iran-aligned Houthi militia against citizens in the seized capital.

Houthi Response Raises Questions

Al-Eryani pointed out that the Houthi militia quickly attempted to obscure the facts surrounding the murder. He noted that their narrative, released more than 72 hours after the crime, contradicted eyewitness accounts and lacked any mention of the motives or identities of the perpetrators. This discrepancy suggests a deliberate effort to manipulate the facts and conceal evidence.

Family Targeted After the Incident

The minister further revealed that the Houthi militia not only withheld the victim’s body and her vehicle from the family but also kidnapped her cousin and raided the family home, arresting three others the following day. This behavior indicates that the militia’s goal was not to uncover the truth but to intimidate the family into silence and to adopt the Houthi’s fabricated narrative.

Financial Transaction Linked to the Murder

Al-Eryani shared that Dr. Wafa had recently received a financial transfer in U.S. dollars from a currency exchange company. He claimed that members of the so-called “Houthi Security and Intelligence Agency” had been tracking her until the moment of her murder. When they attempted to stop her, she bravely resisted, leading to a violent confrontation that resulted in her death. This raises critical questions: Was the bullet that killed her fired by these militia members, or did it result from a clash with local residents who tried to intervene?

Alternative Narrative by the Militias

The minister emphasized that the militia quickly crafted an alternative story, portraying the murder as a random criminal act committed by unknown assailants. This narrative ignored the true motives behind the crime and failed to clarify the connection between the suspects and the militia’s security apparatus. Furthermore, the militia’s refusal to disclose the reasons for detaining the family and confiscating their phones suggests a clear attempt to close the case and frame it as a mere criminal incident, distancing it from its political and security implications.

Exposing Houthi Reality

Al-Eryani concluded that the murder of Dr. Wafa al-Mukhlaafi exposes the true nature of the Houthi militia and its so-called “Security and Intelligence Agency.” He described this agency as a tool for tracking, extortion, and extrajudicial killings, highlighting the rampant insecurity that plagues the heart of the seized capital and areas under militia control. In these regions, safety exists only for those loyal to the Houthi agenda, while justice is reserved for their supporters.

Unanswered Questions Remain

The minister left the public with lingering questions: If the militia’s account of the crime is accurate, why did it take three days to clarify the situation? Why were family members of the victim abducted? Why do witnesses face such intimidation? And why is there still so much secrecy surrounding the case?

This tragic incident continues to raise serious concerns about the state of security and justice in Yemen under Houthi control.
