An elderly man was killed, and one of his sons sustained injuries during an armed assault by Houthi militants on Saturday. The incident took place at the victim’s home in the Al-Qafr district, located in northern Ibb Governorate. This attack highlights the increasing violations against civilians in areas controlled by the militia.
Local sources reported that Ahmed Hamid Sinan Al-Jama’i, approximately 70 years old, faced a heavy siege from Houthi forces at his residence in the Bani Jama’a area. The militants claimed they targeted him because he was wanted by their affiliated authorities.
According to eyewitness accounts, the militia opened fire extensively on Al-Jama’i’s home. In response, he attempted to defend himself, leading to a violent exchange that resulted in his death and injuries to one of his sons. Reports also indicate that several attackers suffered injuries during the confrontation.
Following the skirmish, the militia arrested Al-Jama’i’s sons, including the injured one. They also looted the entire contents of the house, causing widespread outrage among local residents.
Sources noted that Al-Jama’i had previous conflicts with local factions supported by the militia. These groups had attempted to abduct him on multiple occasions without success. This history suggests that the recent attack may stem from personal vendettas disguised as security operations.
Ibb Governorate, under Houthi control, has witnessed a troubling increase in violations and assaults against civilians. The absence of state institutions and the prevalence of chaos and violence exacerbate the situation, leaving residents vulnerable.
This incident underscores the urgent need for attention to the deteriorating security conditions in the region. As the situation evolves, the local community continues to express its discontent and calls for accountability.
