In a meeting held today in the temporary capital of Aden, Minister of Information, Culture, and Tourism Muammar Al-Eryani discussed upcoming tourism preparations with Socotra Governor’s Deputy Saleh Saad.
During the meeting, Al-Eryani conveyed greetings from President Rashad Al-Alimi and fellow members of the Presidential Leadership Council, as well as Prime Minister Salem Bin Brek. He emphasized their support for activities that promote tourism in the archipelago.
Al-Eryani praised the success of the cleanliness campaign launched last year in collaboration with local authorities. This initiative focused on cleaning the northern and western shores of the island. He stressed the importance of ongoing awareness efforts, aiming to instill concepts of cleanliness and environmental health in every household. This initiative seeks to maintain Socotra’s health and environmental standards, reflecting its status as a tourist destination.
The minister reviewed planned activities and events for the upcoming tourism season, set to begin in October. He assured that the ministry is committed to making every effort and providing necessary facilities to ensure the season’s success. Al-Eryani highlighted the importance of learning from past mistakes and improving operations to match the archipelago’s esteemed position and resources.
Al-Eryani urged tourism companies in Socotra to enhance their capabilities and collaborate to form larger, more reputable enterprises. He emphasized the need for investment in the tourism sector to create a high-quality service environment.
The minister commended the local authorities for their efforts, particularly in tourism, which he described as a cornerstone of developmental work in the province. He noted the ongoing coordination between the ministry and local institutions.
In response, Saleh Saad expressed gratitude to Minister Al-Eryani for his attention to the province and his active contributions to past tourism seasons. He affirmed the local authority’s readiness to overcome challenges to attract more tourists and showcase Socotra to the world, highlighting the current state of security and stability in the province.
The meeting included notable attendees such as Mohammed Bashraheel, head of the 14 October Foundation for Press, Printing, and Publishing, Intisar Al-Hadali, Director of Tourism Promotion, and Abdullah Al-Hamid, advisor to the Minister of Tourism for Socotra.
