Minister Launches Solar Energy Workshops at Community College in Sayoun

Sayoun, Yemen – Dr. Khaled Al-Wasabi, the Minister of Higher Education, Scientific Research, and Vocational Training, officially inaugurated solar energy workshops and laboratories at the Community College in Sayoun today. He was joined by Hisham Al-Saidi, the Assistant Governor of Hadhramaut for Valley and Desert Affairs. This initiative is part of a development program funded by the Al-Awn Foundation for Development and the Al-Nour Charity Association, with technical oversight from the Arab Organization for Education, Culture, and Science (ALECSO) and the STEP program, executed by the Nebras Development Association.

Modern Facilities Enhance Educational Environment

During the visit, Minister Al-Wasabi and Assistant Governor Al-Saidi toured the newly equipped workshops and laboratories, which feature the latest technologies and equipment in solar energy. This effort aims to enhance the educational environment and provide high-quality practical training for students.

Commitment to Technical Education

Minister Al-Wasabi praised the effective partnership and fruitful collaboration between civil society organizations. He emphasized the importance of supporting specialized fields that contribute to sustainable development. “Investing in quality technical education is crucial for our future,” he stated.

Transformative Impact on Vocational Training

Assistant Governor Al-Saidi highlighted the project’s potential to bring about a significant transformation in vocational education in the Hadhramaut Valley. He noted that this initiative reflects the active partnership between official entities and supporting institutions.

Comprehensive Academic and Training Programs

Dr. Fahmy Farara, Dean of the Community College in Sayoun, explained that the establishment of these workshops and laboratories aligns with a comprehensive plan to modernize academic and training programs. This modernization aims to meet contemporary demands and equip students with the practical skills necessary for confident and competent entry into the job market.

Strategic Vision for Renewable Energy

Dr. Abdul-Lah bin Othman, Executive Director of the Al-Awn Foundation for Development, expressed pride in contributing to the college’s infrastructure development. He emphasized that supporting future-oriented fields like renewable energy aligns with the foundation’s strategic vision.

Building National Competencies in Solar Energy

Engineer Hassan Al-Sukkar, a representative of the Nebras Development Association, noted that the solar energy development program at the Community College in Sayoun represents a qualitative initiative. It aims to build qualified national competencies in this vital field through three integrated projects: curriculum development, educational environment enhancement, and faculty training.

This initiative marks a significant step towards advancing vocational education in Yemen, particularly in the renewable energy sector, ensuring that students are well-prepared for the challenges of the modern workforce.
