Dr. Qassem Baheeb, the Minister of Public Health and Population, highlighted the significance of specialized training programs in establishing a health system based on scientific evidence and epidemiological research. He stressed the need to develop health policies grounded in data and field information, which enhances the efficiency of responses to health risks and challenges.
During the closing ceremony of the training programs for the year 2026, held on Monday in the temporary capital, Aden, Minister Baheeb pointed out the pivotal role of the National Institute of Public Health. He described the institute as a national entity dedicated to advancing epidemiological and research knowledge. The institute contributes to a qualitative shift in the institutional framework of the health system by preparing qualified personnel and equipping them with essential scientific and practical skills.
Minister Baheeb appreciated the support provided by the World Health Organization, the Eastern Mediterranean Network, and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) for the institute and its training programs. He affirmed that these partnerships contribute to developing national capacities and enhancing the public health system.
The minister congratulated the graduates for successfully completing their training programs. He urged them to translate the knowledge and skills they acquired into practical applications in the field. He emphasized the importance of utilizing this knowledge to improve epidemiological surveillance and response efforts, as well as providing accurate scientific assessments to help prioritize health issues and make informed decisions.
Dr. Abdullah Bin Gouth, the Executive Director of the National Institute of Public Health, reviewed the key activities and achievements of the institute during the current year in training, scientific research, and academic work. He also highlighted the institute’s efforts to build effective partnerships with local, regional, and international organizations, reinforcing its position as a national institution supporting public health development.
The ceremony underscored the importance of enhancing cooperation and coordination among relevant sectors, developing national capacities, and integrating roles in implementing the “One Health” approach to address epidemiological challenges.
The training program received support from the Pandemic Fund and the Eastern Mediterranean Network through the World Health Organization. Over the course of a year, it targeted 66 trainees across three training courses in basic epidemiology and One Health epidemiology. The ceremony included scientific presentations showcasing the outcomes of the training courses and the achievements of the National Institute of Public Health, concluding with the honoring of graduates, trainers, and supporting organizations.
