Minister of Agriculture Inspects Agricultural Office in Socotra

Socotra, Yemen – Today, Minister of Agriculture, Irrigation, and Fisheries, Major General Salem Al-Saqtri, visited the Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation office in Socotra. During his visit, he assessed the ongoing operations and discussed the needs of the agricultural and livestock sectors in the region.

Addressing Challenges in Agriculture and Livestock

Al-Saqtri met with Yahya Bin Majid, the director of the local agriculture office, along with department heads and staff members. They provided insights into the office’s current status, highlighting the challenges facing both the agricultural and livestock sectors. Additionally, they outlined projects requiring funding and partnerships with international organizations and supportive entities.

Plans for Agricultural Development

The minister emphasized the ministry’s commitment to coordinating with organizations to secure funding for essential projects. These include the establishment of an agricultural quarantine facility at the port, equipped with necessary laboratories. Furthermore, plans are underway to create a dairy center, a veterinary center, and a seed bank in Socotra. These initiatives aim to enhance agricultural production and support local farmers.

Commitment to Teamwork and Institutional Improvement

Al-Saqtri stressed the importance of workplace discipline and teamwork, noting their critical role in improving institutional performance. He praised the efforts of the agriculture and irrigation office in serving farmers and livestock resources. The minister reaffirmed the ministry’s ongoing support for the development of this vital sector.

This visit underscores the government’s dedication to strengthening agricultural practices and improving the livelihoods of farmers in Socotra.
