Project “Masam” Removes Over 1,100 Landmines in Yemen

The “Masam” project, operated by the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center, announced the successful removal of 1,103 landmines and unexploded ordnance during the second week of September. These dangerous devices were planted by the Iran-backed Houthi militia across various Yemeni provinces.

Details of the Removal Operations

According to the project’s statement, the removal included four anti-personnel mines, 51 anti-tank mines, and 1,047 pieces of unexploded ordnance, along with one improvised explosive device (IED). This recent effort raises the total number of landmines cleared in September to 1,870. Since the project’s inception, more than 514,000 landmines have been removed from Yemeni territory, posing significant threats to civilians, particularly children, women, and the elderly.

Ongoing Efforts for a Safer Yemen

Supported by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the “Masam” project continues its mission to clear Yemeni lands of landmines. This humanitarian initiative aims to enhance the safety of local populations and enable them to live in a secure and stable environment.
