The local authority in Taiz Governorate has called on citizens, particularly parents, educators, and youth, to resist the coercive recruitment and mobilization campaigns carried out by the Houthi militia, which is backed by the Iranian regime in certain districts of the governorate. The authority warned against engaging in sectarian mobilization activities or participating in them. It emphasized that those involved in facilitating or supporting these practices will face legal accountability.
In a statement issued by the media office of the governorate, the local authority clarified that it is closely monitoring the Houthi militia’s forced recruitment campaigns and attempts to subject educational and community institutions to sectarian indoctrination programs. These efforts include altering school curricula and targeting the minds of children and youth with foreign ideological concepts, aiming to erase national identity and undermine the values of the republican system.
The authority asserted that these practices reveal the nature of the Houthi project, which seeks to impose its reality by force in areas under its control. This occurs while the militia continues to besiege the city of Taiz and shell residential neighborhoods, resulting in civilian casualties, despite the militia’s claims of opening roads and facilitating humanitarian aid access.
The local authority warned citizens about the dangers of engaging in recruitment and mobilization campaigns. It urged them to remember the humanitarian tragedies caused by the war, especially among children and school students who have been recruited and sent to the frontlines, depriving them of their right to education and a safe life.
The authority also called on anyone involved in facilitating these practices or cooperating with the Houthi militia to take advantage of the opportunity for safe return and the general amnesty announced by the state leadership. It urged them to cease any support for the militia’s activities. The authority stressed that acts of forced recruitment, espionage, financing the militia, or facilitating its operations will face legal accountability and prescribed penalties, according to a statement from the Presidential Leadership Council.
The local authority emphasized that ideas based on monopolizing power and claiming divine right to rule contradict the principles of equal citizenship and the values of the republican system. It affirmed that imposing such ideas by force entrenches discrimination and violates citizens’ rights and freedoms.
The authority confirmed that Taiz Governorate will remain committed to the republican system and the values of freedom and human dignity. It will not accept the subjugation of society to coercive mobilization and recruitment projects. The authority urged citizens to protect their children, preserve educational and community institutions, and avoid engaging in activities that would prolong the war and deepen the suffering of Yemenis.
