Local Authority Honors 35 Women in Marib for Their Contributions

The local authority in Marib Governorate celebrated 35 outstanding women today, recognizing their exceptional contributions across various fields. This event coincided with International Women’s Day, observed globally on March 8 each year. The women received certificates of appreciation and financial incentives for their achievements.

Celebrating Women’s Contributions

During the ceremony organized by the General Administration for Women’s Development at the governorate’s headquarters, officials emphasized the theme: “Women are the backbone of society and partners in change and peacebuilding.” Mohammed Al-Bazli, the Director General of the Governor’s Office, and Finda Al-Amari, the Director General of the General Administration for Women’s Development, delivered speeches congratulating the honorees. They highlighted the women’s remarkable performance in various sectors, both public and private, over the past year.

Al-Bazli and Al-Amari stated that this recognition serves as a tribute to all working women in Marib. They aim to motivate women to strive for excellence, enhance productivity, and compete for better opportunities, ultimately contributing to social and economic development for their families and communities.

Addressing Challenges Faced by Yemeni Women

The officials also used this occasion to shed light on the challenges faced by Yemeni women, particularly those arising from the actions of the Houthi militia. They noted that women bear the brunt of the ongoing conflict, suffering from violence, arbitrary arrests, and forced disappearances since 2014. Many women have lost their jobs, faced restrictions on working with organizations, and experienced the loss of their salaries. Additionally, they endure displacement and the burden of supporting their families amid these hardships.

Achievements of Women in Marib

Al-Bazli and Al-Amari reviewed the significant achievements of women in Marib across various sectors. They credited the local authority, particularly the leadership of the Presidential Leadership Council member, Major General Sultan Al-Arada, for fostering an environment that empowers women. The officials emphasized the importance of women as active partners in decision-making and production, which is essential for the governorate’s development, recovery, and reconstruction efforts.

Call for International Support

In their speeches, Al-Bazli and Al-Amari urged the international community and the UN envoy to take a strong and genuine stand against the violations committed by the Houthi militia. They called for the immediate release of all women detained without charge and the lifting of restrictions imposed on women’s rights to life, work, dignity, and personal freedom.

Conclusion and Exhibition Opening

The ceremony concluded with the presence of Dr. Badour Al-Maawari, Vice President of the Saba Region University for Academic Affairs. The event also featured the opening of an exhibition showcasing women’s products, held in conjunction with the International Women’s Day celebrations. The honorees received further recognition for their contributions, highlighting the vital role of women in society.
