Minister Praises National Institute of Public Health’s Role in Health Crisis Management

Dr. Qassem Baheeb, the Minister of Public Health and Population, commended the significant role of the National Institute of Public Health in identifying and analyzing health issues. He emphasized the importance of evidence-based solutions that reflect real-world conditions.

Workshop Concludes in Aden

This statement came during the closing ceremony of the second workshop of the third session on field epidemiology. The event took place in Aden, organized by the National Institute in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO) and supported by the Pandemic Fund and the Eastern Mediterranean Public Health Network (EMPHNET).

Advancements in Epidemiological Definitions

The Minister highlighted the achievements made through the institute, describing them as a significant step toward unifying definitions of epidemiological cases. He urged participants to utilize the workshop’s outcomes and apply them practically, focusing on building the capacities of health personnel and promoting reliable health statistics.

A Roadmap for Health Monitoring

Dr. Ali Al-Waleedi, the Undersecretary of the Ministry for Primary Health Care and Chair of the Event Committee, stated that the workshop’s content should serve as a practical roadmap for all entities involved in monitoring and response efforts. He noted that the scientific material presented deserves adoption and field application due to its depth and precise connection between reality and analysis.

Detailed Presentations on Disease Thresholds

Dr. Abdullah Bin Gouth, the Dean of the Institute, provided a detailed presentation on the epidemiological threshold for dengue fever in Aden. He also analyzed the malaria situation in Abyan and discussed a case study of a dengue-related death in Aden, showcasing a field research approach to identify and address any shortcomings in reporting and treatment methods.

A Turning Point for Health Priorities

Dr. Mahmoud Zaher, the WHO Office Director in Aden, remarked that the workshop represents a turning point in prioritizing and controlling morbidity and outbreaks. He emphasized the importance of making decisions based on scientific insights and accurate conclusions, aligning with the organization’s commitment to supporting evidence-based health systems.

Future Collaboration in Disease Control

Dr. Yasser Baheesh, Director General of the National Malaria Control Program, confirmed that close and integrated collaboration between the program and the institute awaits in the upcoming phase, particularly in monitoring, analysis, and response efforts.

This workshop not only enhances the capabilities of health professionals but also strengthens the foundation for effective public health strategies in Yemen.
