The National Coordination Committee for Health Emergencies (NCC) convened today in the temporary capital of Aden, led by Dr. Qassem Bahibeh, Minister of Public Health and Population. The meeting focused on several pressing health issues, particularly the current cholera and fever epidemic.
During the meeting, which included Dr. Ali Al-Walidi, Undersecretary for Primary Health Care, and Dr. Fadl Al-Shaari, Assistant Secretary-General of the Cabinet, attendees discussed preparations for the upcoming national polio vaccination campaign set to launch this Saturday.
Minister Bahibeh provided a comprehensive overview of the latest epidemic developments across various governorates. He highlighted technical indicators related to the urgent malaria response campaign, emphasizing the need for immediate action.
The Minister stressed the importance of adopting a One Health approach. This strategy requires coordination among various government entities and public health sectors, along with collaboration from local and international partners. He urged for effective emergency health responses and called for enhanced national coordination mechanisms to ensure transparent health information exchange. This will help direct interventions and resources swiftly and effectively.
Bahibeh also underscored the necessity of increasing readiness and preparedness in all governorates. He called for intensive coordination with health offices and local authorities. The Minister believes that collaborative efforts among all partners represent the best way to overcome current health challenges and protect citizens from disease outbreaks.
In a related effort, the Minister chaired an extensive meeting with ministry undersecretaries, assistants, and several directors of health programs. The focus was on enhancing institutional performance within the ministry and improving internal coordination to elevate health services.
The Minister reiterated the need to overcome challenges hindering performance. He emphasized the importance of developing actionable plans aimed at improving efficiency and strengthening institutional work within the ministry. These efforts align with the goals of enhancing health services and meeting citizens’ needs.
