In a crucial meeting held today in the temporary capital of Aden, Chief Justice Mohsen Yahya Taleb addressed the pressing issues surrounding the country’s prison system. He met with Major General Saleh Abdul Habib, the head of the Republic’s Prison Authority, to discuss the current state of prisons and their urgent needs amid Yemen’s ongoing financial crisis.
During the meeting, which also included Dr. Ali Atboosh, Secretary-General of the Judiciary Council, and Dr. Nasser Al-Boukari, head of the Prison Division at the Attorney General’s Office, the Chief Justice received a detailed briefing from Major General Abdul Habib. The Chief Justice highlighted the necessity of activating the High Prison Committee, as stipulated in the Prison Law and its Executive Regulations No. (48) of 1991. This committee plays a vital role in overseeing prison conditions and ensuring the welfare of inmates. Additionally, the meeting emphasized the importance of following up on the Presidential Committee dedicated to the care of prisoners.
