President Alimi Meets German Charge d’Affaires to Discuss Yemen’s Situation

On Monday, President Dr. Rashad Mohammed Alimi, head of the Presidential Leadership Council, welcomed Sofia Bogner, the Charge d’Affaires of the Federal Republic of Germany. The two discussed the latest developments in Yemen, focusing on efforts to de-escalate tensions and protect civilians in the eastern provinces.

Support from Germany and the EU

During the meeting, President Alimi praised Germany and the European Union for their unwavering support of the Yemeni people and their political leadership. He emphasized the importance of unity and territorial integrity, as well as the need to end the Houthi coup, which is backed by the Iranian regime. Alimi reiterated the goals of restoring security, stability, development, and peace in Yemen.

Recent Developments in Eastern Provinces

President Alimi provided an overview of recent developments in the eastern provinces. He highlighted the presidential efforts since the formation of the Leadership Council to maintain consensus. He also addressed the negative impact of unilateral actions by the Southern Transitional Council on the unity of the council and the government, as well as on living conditions and civil peace. This situation necessitated responsible action from the state leadership to protect civilians under the constitution and transitional frameworks.

Saudi Arabia’s Role in De-escalation

The president acknowledged the crucial role of Saudi Arabia in efforts to de-escalate tensions, protect civilians, and assist those affected in Hadhramaut. He noted that coordinated actions with the Saudi-led coalition achieved their objectives in accordance with international humanitarian law, preventing internal conflicts.

Sovereign Decisions and Human Rights

President Alimi discussed sovereign decisions, including the declaration of a state of emergency and the end of Emirati presence. These measures aimed to safeguard de-escalation efforts and the legal status of the state while preventing the militarization of political life. He stressed the commitment to human rights and the need to deter any violations.

Successful Transition of Military Camps

The president commended the successful transfer of military camps in Hadhramaut and Al-Mahrah. He praised local authorities and the National Shield Forces for their strict adherence to international humanitarian law. Immediate steps will follow to manage the post-transition phase, build trust, protect public and private property, and investigate those involved in looting and vandalism. Local communities will also play a role in maintaining stability and public order.

Commitment to a Comprehensive Southern Solution

President Alimi reaffirmed his commitment to a fair and comprehensive solution to the southern issue, emphasizing the importance of free public will in normal conditions. He called for an inclusive Southern dialogue, free of preconditions and under the auspices of Saudi Arabia.

Strengthening Regional and International Cooperation

The president expressed the government’s determination to enhance cooperation with all regional and international stakeholders. He clarified that correcting the partnership within the legitimacy-supporting coalition does not imply a break with the United Arab Emirates.

Continued International Support for Yemen

President Alimi expressed hope for ongoing European and international support for Yemen and its government. He highlighted Yemen’s role as a close partner in safeguarding international navigation, combating terrorism, and protecting maritime corridors.

Conclusion

The meeting concluded with the presence of Dr. Yahya Al-Shaibi, Director of the Presidential Office, underscoring the importance of continued dialogue and cooperation for Yemen’s future stability and peace.
