Governor Nabil Shamsan of Taiz launched a distance learning system today as part of an emergency plan aimed at ensuring the continuity of education and compensating for lost academic time. This initiative responds to the temporary suspension of classes due to the impacts of war and the blockade imposed by Houthi militias on the province.
During the launch at the Martyr Naima Rasam Girls’ School in Taiz City, the governor reviewed the readiness of the educational platform. He examined the mechanisms for delivering live lessons, tracking attendance, submitting assignments, and electronically grading them. Additionally, he observed a model of a live class and the interaction of students with the lesson.
Shamsan emphasized that education remains a top priority for the local authority. He assured that the exceptional circumstances facing the province would not hinder the educational process or deprive students of their right to education. He praised the efforts of the Education Office and educational staff in preparing the initiative and urged for the swift completion of preparations to expand the program to include students from both urban and rural areas.
Abdul-Wasea Shaddad, Director of the Education Office in the province, explained that the plan includes activating three educational platforms for secondary education across three schools in different districts. These services will be provided free of charge to high school students according to a schedule that runs from eight in the morning until six in the evening.
Shaddad noted that the plan incorporates the use of visual education applications and WhatsApp groups. It also includes training for teachers through a train-the-trainer approach and activating the role of educational supervision to monitor performance and ensure the compensation of educational losses.
