Governor of Taiz, Nabil Shamsan, emphasized the need for a thorough and accurate documentation of the humanitarian, service, and economic impacts resulting from the war and siege imposed by the Iranian-backed Houthi militia on the province.
This statement came during a meeting of the Siege Affairs Committee in the province, attended by the Deputy Governor for Services, Engineer Rashad Al-Akhali, Director of the Human Rights Office, Ali Sarhan, and committee members.
The governor asserted that systematic documentation of the humanitarian suffering endured by the residents of the province will help expose the violations committed by the Houthi militia and bring the issue to the attention of both local and international public opinion.
He noted that the siege no longer only involves the closure of main roads; it has extended to various aspects of life. This includes the movement of citizens, access to health and educational services, trade and relief operations, as well as water and food supplies. Additionally, the siege has led to rising living costs.
Nabil Shamsan directed the committee to conduct comprehensive monitoring and documentation of the effects of the siege and its escalation. This includes attacks targeting civilians and vital facilities in Al-Mokha and the western coastal districts. He called for the preparation of professional, documented reports that reveal the extent of violations and support the rights of the province’s residents.
He also stressed the importance of developing monitoring and documentation tools, improving reporting mechanisms, and enhancing coordination with local and international human rights organizations. This effort aims to bring the issue to the international community and hold the Houthi militia accountable for its violations.
During the meeting, the governor listened to a presentation from the committee regarding its field efforts and plans to expand monitoring to cover various aspects of public life. This will be done in coordination with official bodies and relevant organizations and human rights centers. The committee aims to prepare daily and periodic reports documenting the humanitarian, service, and economic dimensions of the siege imposed on the province.
