Governor Inaugurates Fifth Book Fair in Shabwa

Shabwa, Yemen – October 7, 2023

The Governor of Shabwa, Awdh bin Al-Wazir, officially opened the Fifth Book Fair in Shabwa on Saturday. This event, organized by the General Authority for Books, Publishing, and Distribution in coordination with the Culture Office, will run for six days. The fair features active participation from various national and Arab publishing houses.

A Tour of the Exhibition

During the opening ceremony, Governor bin Al-Wazir toured the exhibition alongside Dr. Tawfiq Basarda, the President of Shabwa University, Assistant Governor Salem Al-Nasi, and Dr. Faisal Al-Ba’asi, the Director of the Culture Office. The governor praised the organization and classification of the exhibits, which align with different fields of knowledge. He highlighted the significant involvement of participating publishers and commended the efforts of those who organized the fair. The strong turnout reflects the community’s love for books, reading, and learning.

Cultural Activities and Support for Researchers

Governor bin Al-Wazir also applauded the cultural activities taking place in the province, emphasizing their role in reshaping the national cultural landscape. He directed local authorities to support researchers and students by providing access to necessary books and references for their academic studies at the local government’s expense.

Participation and Offerings

Khalid Faraj, the Director General of the General Authority for Books in Shabwa, announced that the fair includes 22 national and Arab publishing houses, showcasing over 150,000 books. This diverse collection offers something for every reader and highlights the fair’s significance in promoting literacy and culture in the region.

The Shabwa Book Fair not only fosters a love for reading but also strengthens community ties through shared cultural experiences. The event stands as a testament to Shabwa’s commitment to enhancing its cultural scene and supporting education.
