The Foreign Minister warns of a cross-border Houthi sabotage project threatening international navigation with Iranian support.

Yemeni Foreign Minister Warns of Houthi Cross-Border Threats

Yemeni Foreign Minister and Expatriates Affairs, Dr. Afrah Al-Zuba, warned that Houthi terrorist militias, supported by the Iranian regime, are executing a destructive cross-border project that threatens international navigation and exacerbates civilian suffering in Yemen.

Minister’s Remarks at International Peace Operations Roundtable

Dr. Al-Zuba made these statements during a roundtable organized by the International Peace Operations Center of the German Foreign Office in Berlin. The event included diplomats accredited to Germany, parliamentarians, experts, and individuals interested in Yemeni affairs and Middle Eastern issues.

Update on the Situation in Yemen

The minister provided an update on the current situation in Yemen, highlighting the repercussions of Houthi escalation on civilians in several provinces. She specifically addressed the siege imposed by the militias on the city of Taiz. Dr. Al-Zuba emphasized that the ongoing escalation, which has lasted for over a month, has worsened the humanitarian crisis. She noted that the militias use the siege as a tool for collective punishment against civilians.

Violations Against Humanitarian Workers

Dr. Al-Zuba detailed the violations committed by Houthi militias against United Nations staff and humanitarian workers, including their abduction and harsh treatment during detention. She pointed out the death of UN employee Mohammed Al-Shami after more than two years of captivity.

Concerns Over Abducted Individuals

The minister confirmed that the militias refuse to hand over Al-Shami’s body to his family or allow a medical examination to determine the cause of death. She expressed the government’s deep concern regarding the fate of other abducted individuals held in militia prisons.

Call for International Support

Dr. Al-Zuba urged participants to convey the reality of the situation in Yemen to their respective governments and to work on rallying support for the legitimate government to address the humanitarian and security consequences of the Houthi terrorist escalation.

Attendance at the Meeting

The meeting was attended by the Ambassador of the Republic of Yemen to the Federal Republic of Germany, Louay Al-Iryani.
