Yemen’s Foreign Minister Meets UN Resident Coordinator in Aden

On Wednesday, Dr. Shaya’ Al-Zandani, Yemen’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, met with Julian Harnis, the UN Resident Coordinator in Yemen, in the temporary capital of Aden. This meeting aimed to strengthen collaboration between the Yemeni government and the United Nations.

Discussing Humanitarian Response Plans

During their discussion, the two officials focused on mobilizing international resources for the humanitarian response plan for 2025-2026. Dr. Al-Zandani emphasized the importance of coordinating efforts with relevant government entities. He highlighted that such coordination would enhance the effectiveness of humanitarian interventions and ensure sustainable impact.

Commitment to International Organizations

Dr. Al-Zandani reaffirmed the Yemeni government’s full support for international organizations operating in Yemen. He expressed the government’s commitment to providing necessary facilities to enable these organizations to carry out their missions effectively. Furthermore, he stressed the critical need to protect international staff, ensuring their safety and rejecting any targeting, detention, or harassment.

UN’s Commitment to Humanitarian Efforts

In response, Julian Harnis expressed appreciation for the ongoing cooperation between the Yemeni government and the UN system. He reiterated the UN’s commitment to continue collaborative efforts aimed at enhancing humanitarian responses and providing essential support. Harnis also underscored the importance of maintaining coordination with government authorities to ensure that aid reaches those in need efficiently and transparently.

Attendees of the Meeting

The meeting included several key officials, such as Ambassador Abdulqader Hadi, Director of the Foreign Minister’s Office; Ambassador Jamal Awad, Foreign Minister Advisor and Head of the Legal and Treaties Department; and Ambassador Muthana Al-Amri, Director of Organizations at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Their presence underscored the importance of this dialogue in addressing Yemen’s pressing humanitarian challenges.
