Strengthening Yemen-Qatar Development Cooperation

Today, Yemen’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Dr. Shai’ al-Zindani, met with Fahd Al-Sulaiti, the Director General of the Qatar Fund for Development. The two officials discussed ways to enhance mutual cooperation between Yemen and the fund, focusing on supporting development projects in coordination with Yemeni government agencies.

Overview of Development Initiatives

During the meeting, Minister al-Zindani received a detailed presentation on the fund’s activities and the development projects it implements in Yemen. These initiatives, carried out in collaboration with international organizations, target critical sectors such as food security, healthcare, livelihoods, water supply, and women’s empowerment.

Sustainable Development Goals

Minister al-Zindani also reviewed the fund’s operational mechanisms during this phase. He highlighted the fund’s plans to support sustainable development and strengthen the resilience of local communities amid current challenges. The minister emphasized the importance of coordination between the Yemeni government and the Qatar Fund for Development to identify priorities and address urgent needs. This collaboration aims to accelerate economic recovery and achieve stability in the country.

Key Projects Under Discussion

The two sides discussed the implementation mechanisms for projects previously funded by the Qatar Fund. Notable projects include the maintenance and reactivation of the power station in Aden and support for Khalifa Hospital in Taiz Governorate. Additionally, they reviewed various other development initiatives aimed at improving infrastructure and essential services across different regions of Yemen.

Commitment to Humanitarian Efforts

Fahd Al-Sulaiti expressed the Qatar Fund’s eagerness to strengthen direct cooperation with the Yemeni government. He reaffirmed the fund’s commitment to supporting Yemen’s economic recovery program, which aims to alleviate humanitarian suffering and enhance sustainable development efforts. Al-Sulaiti also noted the fund’s dedication to continuing support for development and relief projects that meet the needs of the Yemeni people.

The meeting included the presence of Yemen’s Ambassador to Qatar, Rajeh Badi, the Head of the Minister’s Office, Ambassador Abdulqader Hadi, and the Minister’s Special Advisor, Salem Ba’afi.

This collaboration marks a significant step towards fostering development and improving the living conditions of the Yemeni population.
