Yemen’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Dr. Afrah Al-Zouba, met today with the Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Yemen, Yevgeny Kudurov. They discussed the bilateral relations between the two friendly countries, ways to enhance these ties, and the latest developments in Yemen along with regional issues of mutual interest.
During the meeting, Minister Al-Zouba reviewed the recent situation amid the escalation of Houthi militia activities. She emphasized that the state’s duty to protect its citizens, territory, and sovereignty, as well as to confront armed threats, falls within its constitutional responsibilities and legitimate rights under international law and agreed-upon references. Strengthening the capabilities of state institutions and consolidating arms and sovereign decision-making within them are fundamental to Yemen’s security, stability, and the protection of its people’s interests.
Minister Al-Zouba stressed the importance of supporting state institutions and preventing the imposition of new realities by force. This approach aims to preserve Yemen’s sovereignty and contribute to reducing the risks of expanding threats and their implications for regional security and maritime routes.
The Foreign Minister expressed the Republic of Yemen’s appreciation for the Russian Federation’s positions supporting Yemen’s unity, sovereignty, territorial integrity, and state institutions. She highlighted the importance of continuing consultations and coordination with Moscow, as a permanent member of the Security Council, to support Yemen’s security and stability while maintaining a cohesive international stance on its issues.
Al-Zouba also expressed Yemen’s desire to further develop relations with the Russian Federation in political, economic, and developmental fields, building on the historical ties between the two countries to serve their mutual interests.
In response, Ambassador Kudurov reiterated Russia’s support for Yemen’s security, stability, unity, and sovereignty. He affirmed Russia’s commitment to continuing the development of friendly and cooperative relations with the Republic of Yemen. The ambassador also expressed his country’s readiness to contribute positively to efforts supporting stability, reducing tensions, and maintaining coordination with the Yemeni government on issues of mutual interest.
