Today, the first International Scientific Conference organized by Sayun University commenced in Sayun, Hadhramaut. The conference operates under the theme “Cognitive Development and Prospects for Construction and Development.”
Over the next two days, the conference will explore three main areas: humanities, applied and basic sciences, and medical sciences. Participants will present 144 scientific papers covering various disciplines. Esteemed researchers and academics from across the Republic, along with representatives from 13 Arab, Asian, and European countries, will contribute to the discussions.
The conference aims to tackle contemporary challenges and issues through the lens of knowledge production. It will highlight the role of humanities, applied sciences, and medical fields in enhancing and developing communities.
During the opening session, Amer Al-Amri, the Deputy Governor of Hadhramaut for Valley and Desert Affairs, emphasized the importance of the conference. He noted that it provides a platform to address numerous phenomena and imbalances while seeking scientific solutions through the various topics and research presented. Al-Amri stated that the conference serves as a vital venue for exchanging knowledge and ideas on leveraging cognitive development to support community construction and development. He reaffirmed the local authority’s commitment to education as a fundamental pillar for progress, asserting that “there can be no development without knowledge, and no knowledge without thorough research.”
Dr. Najib Saif, a representative from the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, highlighted the significance of the conference. He pointed out that the participation of universities and research centers from both local and regional levels demonstrates Sayun University’s exceptional efforts. Dr. Saif expressed hope that the conference would inspire further scientific advancements. He also mentioned that the ministry is undergoing a comprehensive reform of higher education and scientific research as a crucial tool for sustainable development, outlining various programs aimed at enhancing the quality of higher education.
Dr. Mohammed Al-Kathiri, President of Sayun University, described the conference as an opportunity for exchanging ideas and experiences. He stressed the importance of developing a flexible educational system that keeps pace with rapid changes and fosters critical thinking and innovation. Dr. Al-Kathiri noted that the university has recently achieved significant progress in Arab rankings, securing the 111th position among 673 universities evaluated. This achievement reflects the university’s growing role in promoting education and scientific research at both local and international levels. He also announced the inaugural Sayun University Award for Scientific Publishing in medical, scientific, applied, humanitarian, and administrative disciplines.
Dr. Abdullah Bin Shahab, the head of the conference’s scientific committee, stated that organizing the conference demonstrates the university’s commitment to enhancing scientific research and knowledge development. He emphasized that the conference’s theme embodies a comprehensive vision linking knowledge with the development process. Dr. Bin Shahab expressed hope that the conference would yield innovative ideas and perspectives that contribute to sustainable development and unveil new avenues for scientific collaboration and interaction.
This conference marks a significant step towards fostering a culture of research and development in the region, aiming to address pressing issues through collaborative efforts and knowledge sharing.
