Emergency Committee in Taiz Discusses Humanitarian Situation and Food Supplies

The Emergency Committee in Taiz Governorate convened today under the leadership of Governor Nabil Shamsan to discuss the implications of the blockade imposed on the city. The committee addressed the impact on the humanitarian situation, food stockpiles, and supplies of petroleum products and household gas. The committee welcomed the efforts of the International Committee of the Red Cross aimed at facilitating the entry of food and essential supplies into the governorate.

Meeting Overview

The meeting included the participation of Member of Parliament Abdul Karim Shiban, local officials, and directors of relevant offices. Attendees reviewed supply reports and basic needs, as well as the efforts made in coordination with the government and international organizations to ensure the delivery of supplies and alleviate the suffering of citizens. This includes petroleum products designated for the governorate, currently located in Lahij Governorate.

Challenges to Supply Flow

Governor Nabil Shamsan emphasized that road closures represent the primary obstacle to the flow of supplies into Taiz. He noted ongoing communication with the International Committee of the Red Cross to facilitate the passage of supplies and is awaiting a response from Houthi militias regarding the opening of roads and allowing supplies to enter under the committee’s supervision.

Commitment to Humanitarian Aid

The committee expressed its readiness to fully cooperate and provide the necessary facilitation for delivering aid and essential supplies to citizens. It highlighted that all roads and access points under local authority control remain open for humanitarian and commercial supply movements. However, Houthi militias continue to close main roads, hindering mobility and the delivery of essential needs to the population.

Call for Coordination

The committee called for the facilitation of food supplies, petroleum products, and household gas through official channels, in coordination with local authorities. This approach aims to meet the needs of citizens and mitigate the worsening humanitarian crisis resulting from the blockade.
