Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Mustafa Noman, attended the opening of the eighth Indian Ocean Conference (IOC) today in Muscat. This significant event gathered officials from various Arab and foreign nations, including Omani Foreign Minister Badr bin Hamad al-Busaidi.

Key Discussions on Security Issues

The conference focused on pressing security issues related to the Indian Ocean. Participants discussed topics such as maritime power, regional conflicts, climate change, natural disasters, and economic disruptions. These discussions highlighted the importance of collaboration among nations to address these challenges effectively.

Addressing Terrorism and Maritime Threats

During his speech, Noman emphasized the threat posed by Iranian-backed Houthi militias in the Red Sea. He pointed out that their activities jeopardize global trade and contribute to piracy and smuggling in the region. The Deputy Minister reiterated Yemen’s commitment to enhancing its maritime capabilities to combat these threats in the Red Sea and Bab al-Mandab Strait.

Call for International Support

Noman urged the international community to support the Yemeni government in strengthening global navigation security. He expressed gratitude to the Sultanate of Oman for hosting this important global event, recognizing the significance of international cooperation in ensuring maritime safety.

The Indian Ocean Conference serves as a crucial platform for discussing security and cooperation among nations bordering the Indian Ocean. As global challenges continue to evolve, collaborative efforts will be essential in addressing maritime threats and promoting stability in the region.
