Today, Minister of Defense Lieutenant General Mohsen Al-Daari met with U.S. Ambassador to Yemen Stephen Fagin and the U.S. Defense Attaché, Colonel Sturtz Peebles, to discuss the latest developments in Yemen. The meeting focused on the escalating situation caused by Houthi militia attacks and their ongoing threats to maritime navigation.
During the discussion, Minister Al-Daari expressed concerns about the persistent assaults by Houthi militias on armed forces positions. He highlighted the group’s continued disregard for its commitments to peace, emphasizing the need for a stronger international response. Al-Daari noted that the international community’s leniency towards these terrorist groups has emboldened them to target commercial vessels and threaten maritime security.
He asserted that the most effective way to counter these threats lies in bolstering the capabilities of the armed forces and the government. By doing so, they can fulfill their constitutional and legal duties to liberate areas under Houthi control and restore security and stability in Yemen.
Al-Daari reassured attendees that all branches of the armed forces are operating with a high level of coordination through the Joint Operations Authority of the Ministry of Defense. He emphasized that their collective goal remains the same: to end the Houthi insurgency and restore state institutions.
In response, Ambassador Fagin reiterated the United States’ commitment to supporting the Presidential Leadership Council and the Yemeni government in their efforts to achieve peace and stability in the region. His remarks underscored the importance of international collaboration in addressing the ongoing challenges in Yemen.
The meeting also included Major General Ahmed Mohsen Al-Yafei, head of the Intelligence and Reconnaissance Authority, and Colonel Yahya Al-Wael, the military attaché at the Yemeni embassy in Riyadh. Their presence highlighted the collaborative efforts among military and diplomatic leaders to address the crisis in Yemen effectively.
This meeting underscores the urgent need for a unified approach to restore peace and security in Yemen, as various stakeholders work together to confront the challenges posed by the Houthi militias.
