The National Disaster Management Authority of Pakistan has reported a tragic increase in the death toll from the ongoing monsoon rains. Since June 26, the number of fatalities has risen to 97, with 297 individuals injured. This update follows the recent 24-hour period, which saw 11 deaths and 25 injuries.

Punjab Province Faces the Brunt of Casualties

The province of Punjab has experienced the highest number of casualties in the last day, with seven fatalities recorded. The primary cause of these deaths stems from building collapses, followed by incidents of drowning and lightning strikes.

Damage Assessment and Ongoing Relief Efforts

Recent rainfall has also led to the damage of 22 additional homes, bringing the total number of affected houses to 447 since the onset of the monsoon season. Additionally, 269 livestock have perished due to the severe weather conditions. Relief and rescue operations continue in the impacted areas, as authorities work to assist those in need.

Flood Forecast and Emergency Preparedness

The Flood Forecasting Division has assured the public that conditions in the major rivers remain under control, despite rising water levels in certain sections of the Chenab and Ravi rivers. However, the Punjab Disaster Management Authority has warned of ongoing risks related to local flooding and landslides, maintaining that emergency services remain on high alert.

This situation underscores the urgent need for continued monitoring and support as communities grapple with the aftermath of the monsoon rains.
