Yemen and Saudi Arabia Discuss Joint Defense Initiatives

Today, Major General Saghir bin Aziz, Chief of the General Staff and Commander of Joint Operations in Yemen, met with General Fahd Al-Ruwaili, Chief of the General Staff of Saudi Arabia. The two leaders focused on enhancing military cooperation and developing a robust defense partnership between their nations. This collaboration aims to bolster regional and international security and stability.

Expanding Military Coordination

During their discussions, both leaders explored ways to expand military coordination. They emphasized the importance of enhancing joint operational mechanisms to improve combat readiness. This initiative responds to regional challenges and the need for collective security measures.

Reviewing Past Successes

General bin Aziz and General Al-Ruwaili reviewed the successes of their previous cooperation. They highlighted advanced training programs for Yemeni personnel conducted in Saudi Arabia. These efforts have significantly improved defensive and logistical capabilities, fostering interoperability and operational integration between the armed forces of both countries.

Acknowledging Saudi Support

General bin Aziz expressed his gratitude to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for its unwavering support of Yemen’s legitimacy and armed forces in their fight against the Iranian-backed Houthi militias. He noted that this support reflects the deep historical ties between the two nations and underscores their shared destiny.

Appreciating Ongoing Collaboration

The Yemeni Chief of Staff praised the existing cooperation between the two countries. He acknowledged Saudi Arabia’s continuous support for capacity-building programs and commended the advancements in the Kingdom’s military industries. He expressed a desire to further leverage Saudi expertise in defense manufacturing and technology transfer to enhance Yemen’s institutional development and defensive capabilities.

Highlighting Global Defense Exhibition

General bin Aziz also noted the exceptional organization of the third edition of the Global Defense Exhibition. He stated that this international event showcases Saudi Arabia’s leadership in the defense industry and its ability to adapt to rapid advancements in military technology. Furthermore, it strengthens international cooperation to address common challenges.

Saudi Commitment to Military Support

In response, General Al-Ruwaili reaffirmed that military cooperation between Yemen and Saudi Arabia is grounded in a solid strategic vision. This vision aims to empower the Yemeni military to fulfill its national role in establishing security and stability. He praised the performance of Yemeni armed forces in their national battles against Houthi militias and emphasized Saudi Arabia’s commitment to enhancing collaborative frameworks that serve mutual strategic interests.

Key Attendees

The meeting included the military attaché at the Yemeni embassy in Riyadh, Colonel Yahya Al-Wail, and the commander of the 19th Brigade, Colonel Abdullah Al-Furji.

This meeting marks a significant step in fortifying the military alliance between Yemen and Saudi Arabia, reinforcing their commitment to regional security and stability.
