President Alimi Engages European Diplomats on Yemen's Peace Efforts

On Wednesday, President Dr. Rashad Mohammed Alimi, head of the Presidential Leadership Council, welcomed Gabriel Monera Vinales, the Head of the European Union Mission to Yemen, along with ambassadors from France, Germany, the Netherlands, Romania, and Greece. The meeting took place at the Maasheeq Palace in the temporary capital, Aden. Engineer Haidar Abu Bakr Al-Attas, advisor to the President, also attended.

Discussion on National Developments and Peace Initiatives

During the meeting, President Alimi briefed the European diplomats on the current national situation. He emphasized the necessary efforts to restore the peace process based on the agreed-upon national, regional, and international references, particularly United Nations Security Council Resolution 2216.

The President reiterated the Council’s and the government’s commitment to Resolution 2216, describing it as an ideal roadmap for achieving peace and stability in Yemen. He also expressed full support for the Saudi-led efforts aimed at initiating a comprehensive political process and improving the living conditions of the Yemeni people, which have deteriorated due to Houthi terrorist attacks on oil facilities and international shipping lanes.

Economic Reforms and European Support

The discussion also covered the trajectory of economic and administrative reforms in Yemen. President Alimi highlighted the need for increased European interventions to support Yemen’s economy and urged for a doubling of humanitarian and developmental commitments across various sectors.

In response, the EU ambassadors reaffirmed their countries’ unwavering support for the Presidential Leadership Council and the government. They expressed their intention to expand diplomatic representation in Aden and enhance their developmental and humanitarian presence at all levels.

Praise for Peace Efforts

The European diplomats commended the Council and the government for their positive engagement with peace initiatives and the UN-sponsored de-escalation efforts.

The meeting also included the participation of Dr. Sha’if Al-Zandani, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, and Saleh Al-Muqallih, Director of the President’s Office.

This engagement underscores the ongoing commitment of both the Yemeni leadership and the international community to work towards a stable and peaceful Yemen.
