President Rashad Aιlimi Meets French Ambassador Catherine Grom Comon

On Monday, President Dr. Rashad Mohammed Alimi, head of the Presidential Leadership Council, welcomed French Ambassador Catherine Grom Comon to discuss key issues affecting Yemen and the bilateral relationship between Yemen and France.

Strengthening Bilateral Relations

During their meeting, President Alimi and Ambassador Grom Comon addressed the strong ties between their two nations. They explored recent developments in local and regional situations, particularly the repercussions of Iranian-backed terrorist attacks on oil facilities and international shipping. The discussions also highlighted opportunities for establishing peace and stability in Yemen.

Addressing Economic and Humanitarian Challenges

The meeting further delved into the pressing economic and humanitarian challenges facing Yemen. President Alimi emphasized the need for increased French and international support to bolster the Yemeni government’s efforts in tackling these issues and alleviating the suffering of the Yemeni people.

A Call for Enhanced European Engagement

President Alimi praised the exceptional bilateral relations between Yemen and France. He acknowledged France’s proactive stance in understanding and addressing the Yemeni crisis. He expressed hope for a more effective European role and international partnership across various levels.

Urging International Action Against Houthi Militias

In this context, President Alimi stressed the importance of international cooperation in implementing punitive measures against the Houthi terrorist militias. He called for efforts to cut off their funding and arms supply, halt their severe human rights violations, and curb their military adventures both nationally and regionally. He specifically referenced the need to enforce relevant international resolutions, particularly Resolution 2216.

Ensuring Maritime Security

The President warned that maritime corridors would remain a persistent area of tension as long as Houthi militias control coastal regions. He pointed out their clear collaboration with terrorist organizations within Yemen and the Horn of Africa.

A Strategic Partnership for Stability

President Alimi reiterated that the only way to eliminate terrorist threats is to support the Yemeni government, a United Nations member, in restoring state institutions and asserting authority over its territory. He emphasized the importance of Yemen as a strategic partner for the international community in securing maritime navigation and ensuring global peace and security.
