President Alimi Meets Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov in New York

 

Strengthening Bilateral Relations

During a recent meeting in New York, President Dr. Rashad Mohammed Alimi, the head of the Presidential Leadership Council, and Council member Othman Majali engaged with Sergey Lavrov, the Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation. This meeting took place on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly.

The discussions highlighted the long-standing bilateral relations between Yemen and Russia, which span nearly nine decades. Both leaders emphasized the promising opportunities to expand and enhance cooperation across various sectors.

Addressing the Yemeni Situation

The conversation also addressed the current situation in Yemen. President Alimi acknowledged the constructive mediation efforts led by Saudi Arabia and Oman, aimed at reducing tensions and initiating a comprehensive political process under the auspices of the United Nations.

The President commended the distinguished relationship between Yemen and Russia, particularly noting Russia’s consistent support in the United Nations Security Council and other international forums for Yemen’s constitutional legitimacy and its national institutions.

Russian Support for Peace Initiatives

In response, Foreign Minister Lavrov reaffirmed Moscow’s commitment to supporting initiatives aimed at ending the conflict in Yemen. He expressed hope for restoring peace, stability, and development in the country.

Lavrov also praised the recent communications between Yemen and Russia, which have revitalized joint ministerial committees and strengthened diplomatic ties for the benefit of both nations and their peoples.

The meeting included key figures such as Dr. Shaea Al-Zandani, Yemen’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Abdullah Al-Saadi, Yemen’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, and Mohammed Al-Hadrami, Yemen’s Ambassador to the United States.

This engagement marks a significant step in fostering international relations and addressing the pressing issues facing Yemen today.
