The Minister of Information stated that the Houthi militia’s message to the UN Security Council is a desperate attempt to legitimize a bloody terrorist coup.

Houthi Militias’ Deceptive Message to the UN Security Council

Minister of Information, Culture, and Tourism, Muammar Al-Eryani, Criticizes Houthi Claims

Muammar Al-Eryani, Yemen’s Minister of Information, Culture, and Tourism, condemned the Houthi militias’ recent message to the UN Security Council. He described it as filled with lies and a blatant attempt to distort the truth. According to Al-Eryani, this message aims to legitimize a violent coup that the Yemeni people have rejected, which the Security Council condemned in its Resolution 2216.

Houthi Violations of International Humanitarian Law

Al-Eryani emphasized that the Houthi militia, which claims to seek peace, engages in severe violations of international humanitarian law. These violations include the abduction of United Nations staff, international organization employees, and diplomats. Additionally, the militia has stormed and looted the offices of international organizations while threatening maritime navigation and international trade, all with direct support from the Iranian regime.

Misrepresentation of the September 21 Revolution

The minister pointed out that the so-called “September 21 Revolution,” promoted by the Houthis, merely represents a bloody militia coup against the state and its constitutional institutions. This coup undermined the outcomes of the National Dialogue Conference and the Gulf Initiative, igniting a catastrophic war that has devastated state institutions and displaced millions of Yemenis.

Houthi Claims of a “Siege” Exposed

Al-Eryani asserted that the Houthis’ claims of a “siege” in their controlled areas serve only as a cover for their theft of state revenues. They impose illegal taxes, steal humanitarian aid, and create crises to further their destructive agenda. The militia deliberately obstructs all humanitarian initiatives, using the suffering of Yemenis as a tool for political extortion.

Security Council Resolution 2216: A Legal Reference

The minister reiterated that UN Security Council Resolution 2216, issued in response to the legitimate government’s request and the pleas of the Yemeni people, remains the sole legal reference for restoring the state. He stressed that this resolution cannot be overlooked or bypassed under pressure from Houthi terrorism or their supporters in Tehran.

Call for International Action Against Houthi Militias

Al-Eryani reminded the United Nations and the international community that the Houthi militia is classified as a “terrorist organization” by the United States and several other countries. He urged for this classification to translate into concrete actions, including expanding sanctions, freezing the militia’s assets, pursuing its leaders, and cutting off its funding sources both domestically and internationally. These steps are crucial for restoring the Yemeni state, achieving regional security and stability, and upholding the principles upon which the United Nations was founded.
