The Chairman of the Leadership Council states that securing the Red Sea begins with government support and countering Iranian influence.

In a recent dialogue on Red Sea security, President Dr. Rashad Mohammed Alimi, head of the Presidential Leadership Council, urged the international community to unite in practical steps to support Yemen’s efforts to restore state authority across its territory. He emphasized the need to transform the Red Sea from a “source of threat” into a “bridge of peace,” as it has historically been.

Emphasizing Sustainable Solutions

During a session at the Munich Security Conference, President Alimi stated, “To find sustainable solutions, we must empower the legitimate authority to assert control over all national territory while focusing on supporting development and stability.” He highlighted that the key to achieving this goal lies in bolstering the government’s capabilities and implementing relevant international resolutions.

Addressing Threats from Within

The President pointed out that the primary threats originate from within Yemen. He called for increased support for the Yemeni government to protect its national territory, alongside enforcing bans on the flow of Iranian weapons to its militias. “This is the lesson we must learn from the Red Sea crisis,” he asserted.

Yemen’s Defense is Global

President Alimi reiterated that Yemen is not only defending itself but also safeguarding global interests. He called for international solidarity that translates into actionable steps to support the Presidential Leadership Council’s efforts to restore state authority and enhance its ability to protect this vital maritime corridor.

Iranian Influence and Regional Stability

The President noted that Iran leads the threats emanating from Yemeni territory. He stressed that de-escalation in the Red Sea and international waters hinges on the Iranian regime’s agenda and interests. He remarked that without the Saudi-led Coalition’s Operation Decisive Storm, the Houthis would have likely taken full control of Yemen, posing deeper and more complex risks to international peace and security.

Urgency in Addressing the Threat

President Alimi warned that any delay in addressing these threats could result in significant global losses. He emphasized the importance of focusing on the root causes of the crisis, which include ending the coup and enforcing relevant international resolutions that prohibit Iranian arms and deter its interference in the internal affairs of other nations.
